GOLF AT BEARSPAW

OUR COURSE

Classic parkland golf with incredible vistas and a great walk through a spectacular setting.
Our course is the heart of the club, a Bill Newis design that’s been drawing people to Bearspaw for decades.

Bearspaw has the best of what you want from a member club - enough elevation to always keep things interesting, strategic bunkering that is ever-present, but not overstated and great greens. It’s a parkland setting with holes that snake through valleys, culminating in a brilliant closing hole with a green set just below the remarkable new clubhouse.

Be Our Guest - Whether you’re the guest of a member or joining us for a corporate event, we hope all of our guests have the same exceptional experience at Bearspaw.  Please read the information below to make your experience at Bearspaw the best it can be.

Getting Here - Bearspaw is located in a residential neighbourhood and we ask all guests to use caution and obey all speed limits and golfer crossing areas.

Member Guests - Our Golf Service team will greet you and assist with any needs related to your golf experience.  Drop your clubs at our conveniently located Bag Drop and let our team take care of the rest. Our Golf Shop is fully stocked and awaiting your arrival and check-in. Just a reminder that Bearspaw is a cashless facility throughout the property.

Tournament Guests - Please head straight to our Bag Drop area to meet the many Golf Service team members who will assist you on your tournament day. Drop your bag, receive your complimentary bag tag and our team will take care of the rest.

Cell phones and other wireless devices are permitted for use throughout the property. We kindly ask that you put them on silent mode out of respect for other guests and members.

Bearspaw’s dress code is adaptable to changing fashions in the golf industry while maintaining the high standards expected by our members. Members and guests are encouraged to consider common sense, respect for tradition and modesty when making attire decisions. The dress code regulations apply to all members and guests (including children).

Golfers must wear proper golf attire that follows industry standards, as determined by the product lines sold by golf brands.

  • Shirts for men and boys must have a collar and sleeves. Shirts for ladies and girls must have a collar or sleeves. Mock necks are acceptable.
  • Items not permitted in any area (dining, golf course & practice facilities) include cargo pants/shorts with expandable outside pockets, gym shorts, spandex shorts, cut-off shorts, tennis shorts, tracksuits, sweatpants, items with garish, vulgar, or offensive language or slogans.
  • Items not permitted on the golf course or practice facilities include t-shirts, tank tops, halter tops, or bare midriffs, denim of any kind and yoga pants/shorts.
  • Tasteful denim clothing is acceptable in the clubhouse. Denim clothing items must be in good repair with no holes, rips, tears, tatters, or frays and must fit appropriately. Denim is not permitted on the golf course or any of the practice areas.
  • Dresses and appropriate formal or semi-formal attire are acceptable in the clubhouse and for social events at the club.
  • Hats and visors are kindly asked to be removed indoors. Backwards hats are kindly asked to be turned brim forward while on property.
  • We are a “soft spikes” only course. Acceptable footwear must be worn on all playing and practice areas.
  • No sandals, flip flops or bare feet are permitted outside the locker room facilities.

We are a member self policing dress code and hope members can keep each other accountable for proper dress.  Staff have been given the authority to prohibit any improperly dressed member or guest from golfing or dining until the dress infraction is corrected. These rules apply to members and their guests, as well as all registered tournament/event guests.

At Bearspaw, delivering an exceptional golf experience is a shared responsibility. Guided by our values of authenticity, gratitude, connection, and excellence, we are committed to creating an environment where all members can enjoy the game in a respectful, timely, and engaging way.

A consistent pace of play allows everyone to fully enjoy their time on the course while respecting fellow members. We thank you for your partnership in upholding this important aspect of the Club experience.

To provide clarity and maintain flow on the golf course, we utilize the Tag Marshal system, monitored closely by our Golf Shop team.

Target Round Times

Members are asked to complete their rounds within the following time guidelines:
  • First 90 minutes of tee times
      - 3 hours and 45 minutes
  • Following 3 hours of tee times
     - 4 hours
  • Remainder of the day
     - 4 hours and 15 minutes
Playing conditions may alter these times slightly; however, all golfers should be able to meet these targets comfortably under normal conditions.

Member Expectations

In the spirit of respect for fellow members and the shared enjoyment of the game, we ask all golfers to:
  • Maintain position with the group ahead, supporting overall course flow
  • Be ready to play and prepared when it is your turn
  • Limit time spent searching for lost balls (3 minutes maximum)
  • Play a provisional ball when appropriate
  • Record scores at the next tee, not on the green
  • Be mindful of pace at transition points throughout the round

Pace of Play Management Approach

Our approach on the course is rooted in support, communication, and a shared commitment to excellence:

1. Friendly Reminder
A Golf Shop team member will connect with your group if you fall behind pace, offering a courteous update and guidance to help you regain position.

2. Pace Correction Request
If additional support is needed, your group will be asked to take immediate steps to improve pace, with clear direction provided by Bearspaw staff.

3. Directed Action
When necessary, more direct measures may be taken—such as moving ahead or adjusting play—to restore flow for the benefit of all members on the course.

Ongoing Member Accountability

In keeping with our commitment to fairness and exceptional member experience, ongoing pace of play concerns will be addressed thoughtfully and respectfully by Bearspaw Management:

1. Review & Conversation
Pace of play data will be reviewed, and a member of our leadership team will connect directly to share observations and align on expectations moving forward.

2. Formal Advisory
If challenges persist, a formal communication will outline expectations and reinforce the importance of pace of play in supporting the broader membership experience.

3. Membership Considerations
In rare cases where pace of play expectations are consistently not met, measures such as adjusted tee time access, pairing structure, or other appropriate actions may be implemented to support overall course enjoyment for all.

Monitoring & Support

Our Golf Shop team actively monitors pace of play through the Tag Marshal system. Should your group be approached, it is simply an opportunity to support you and ensure a smooth, enjoyable round for everyone.

Our Commitment

We are grateful for your cooperation and for the role you play in creating a welcoming, connected, and high-quality golf experience for all members.

All power and push carts at Bearspaw are equipped with sand & seed mix for filling divots that we ask all members and their guests to use. It is beneficial to the golf course to fill as many divots as possible with the mix and you can refill your sand & seed multiple times throughout the round.  Please repair ball marks on greens and ensure traps are raked and the rakes are left out of the sand traps.  Please adhere to roped-off areas or holes which are cart path only (#1, #2, #4, #5, #12, #15, #17) and always keep your golf cart 15 yards away from greens and tee boxes.

Our goal at Bearspaw is to help you make this your best year or round at the club ever. For some, that might mean breaking 100 - for others, it might just be playing more rounds with friends and family and hitting that one unforgettable shot. And the club’s PGA of Canada Professionals and Golf Shop team are here to help you get the most out of your golf, whether it’s assisting with a new pair of shoes or getting you fit for the right wedge.
